Pastor Jay Ahlemann - The Church of the Valley began on June 5th,
2005, under the Senior Pastoral Leadership of
Jay Ahlemann, the Founding Pastor of Christian
Fellowship Church, Loudoun County’s largest
evangelical church. Pastor Jay and Pat Ahlemann
began Christian Fellowship Church in 1977 and
served there for 26 years during which time the
congregation grew to an average attendance of
3,000 in the weekly services.
Following this long ministry, Pastor Jay and Pat
felt the call of God to go to the First Church
of the Nazarene in Pasadena, California, the
home church of Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the
Family. Dr. Dobson taught an adult Sunday School
Class there for 30 years before relocating Focus
Headquarters to Colorado Springs. The Ahlemann’s
saw this old historic church turn around from a
nineteen-year decline and grow from a weekly
attendance of 1,000 to more than 2,000 in just
two years. Feeling that God had accomplished
what He desired during their short time of
pastoral ministry in California, the Ahlemanns
returned to the Washington, DC area,
specifically the Shenandoah Valley, to be near
their son and his family.
After enjoying a brief period of time, traveling across
America speaking in churches fulfilling
invitations that he had not been able to fulfill
through the years because of pastoral ministry
responsibilities, Pastor Ahlemann felt the call
of God to start a brand new church right here in
the Shenandoah Valley---thus he started The
Church of the Valley. The first service was held
in Middletown with 20 people present who
indicated their desire to be part of this new
church. That was Sunday morning, June 5th, 2005.
Now, just one year later, The Church of the
Valley is one church with multiple congregations
in multiple locations. More than 1,500 people
call The Church of the Valley their church home
in just one year! We give all praise to God for
what He has done!!
